Learn to use RSS and a personalized home page to harness information that will hook your students and get them more engaged in the classroom. Once created, your personal home page can give you ideas for using KWL, wordsplashes, brainstorming, and other activating strategies.

RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.

What is iGoogle?






It's Your Turn!

  1. Create a Pageflakes, Netvibes or Google account.
  2. Add flakes, widgets or gadgets to get started.
  3. Find a site you want to subscribe to. (Learn more in the Finding Feeds section below.)
  4. Look for the RSS icon or the add to Google button.
  5. Click the icon or Add to iGoogle button.
  6. It may be necessary to copy the 'feed' url and paste it onto the iGoogle page.
  7. iGoogle - Click Add Stuff and then Gadgets.
  8. iGoogle - The Add feed box is on the lower left side.
  9. iGoogle - Paste the URL in the box and click Add.
